Ruth Flynn Anthe

January 13, 1934 — December 10, 2023

Crestview Hills

Ruth Flynn Anthe passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, December 10, 2023 at the age of 89. Ruth is survived by children: Douglas Joseph Anthe, Susan Marie Anthe, Mark Flynn Anthe and Donna Ruth Anthe; 3 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kathleen Anthe (Gene) Porter; many Flynn-Heist nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Donald Hale Anthe (2020); grandson, Donald Xavier Anthe; in-laws Frank J. Anthe, Sr. and Grace Hale Anthe; Frank J. Anthe, Jr. and by her brother and sister-in-law, Edward J. Flynn and Dottie Flynn. Ruth was born at home on January 13, 1934 in Southgate, Kentucky to the late Edward W. Flynn and Dorothy Amelia Wilson Flynn.  Ruth had such fond memories of growing up on Harvard Place that over the decades we drove by her old house and she’d reminisce about sailing down the hills with her dog on the front of her sled and learning to jitterbug in her friend Judy’s basement with neighbor, the late U.S. Senator and baseball professional “Jimmy” Bunning. She always loved to dance. With her Dad away with the War, Ruth’s loving Mother gave into Mom’s every whim. Mostly stray puppies and chickens which followed her up and down Harvard Place. Her love of animals followed her for the rest of her life. Mom attended St. Therese grade school in Southgate and Notre Dame Academy in Covington (Class of 1951); they both provided a foundation for her deep Catholic faith. Ruth enrolled at University of Cincinnati and pledged Zeta Tau Alpha. She loved campus life and was once voted “Prettiest Girl at the Dance” by a panel including Benny Goodman. Three of Ruth’s dear grade/high school friends (Judy, Mary Kay and Betty) survive, and until recently, all still met for regular luncheons. In the summer 1954, Mom met Dad and they were married at St. Therese on a warm, sunny day on February 19, 1955. Our family began on Carran Drive in Lakeside Park and moved to Crestview Hills in 1968. Together they built and made a beautiful home for family and entertaining friends, surrounded by nature, which they both treasured and enjoyed the rest of their lives. Being very social, they joined Summit Hills Country Club where Mom took us to swim practice daily/yearly; she played golf, tennis and competitive Bridge. Mom was very proud of her Irish heritage and was the first VP of the NKY Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians; she proudly marched in St. Patty’s Day Parades through Cincinnati. Always a fashionista, she worked in retail for over 30 years. Most recently, a top sales performer at Crestview Hills Dillard’s jewelry and accessories departments. Much more than all of that, Mom loved her family and friends and all of her dogs throughout the years.  We would like to thank her dedicated caregivers at CareCore at Meadows for their kindness and compassion.  Visitation will be Saturday, December 16th from 9:30 am until time of  Blessing at 11:00 am at Middendorf  Funeral Home, 3312 Madison Pk.  Ft. Wright, KY 41017. Sympathy may be expressed by a memorial contribution to Kenton County Animal Services, 1020 Mary Laidley Rd., Covington, KY 41017.  Online condolences may be made at www.middendorf-funeralhome.com
