Ronald Lee Rathbun, born on June 1, 1944, and peacefully passed away on November 2, 2023, at the age of 79.

 

In his retirement, Ron embarked on a remarkable adventure in Belize, spending the last 10 years of his life surrounded by the natural beauty and vibrant culture of the country he grew to love.

 Ron's zest for life was evident in his pursuit of new experiences and his unwavering curiosity about the world.

 

Ron is survived by his wife, Christine Dawson. Ron leaves behind four children: Aimee Finke (Billy), Sally Spencer (Curt), David Rathbun (Jessica), and Abigail Wilson (Jonathan), as well as seven grandchildren. He was a dear brother to Kathy Kennedy (Chuck) and a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Francis Hust (nee Cupp), father, Roy Rathbun, and sister Joy Weisbrodt. Ron's family heritage was important to him, and he carried their memory with him throughout his life.

 

Ron graduated from the University of Cincinnati and Princeton Theological Seminary, where he enriched his mind and spirit. Professionally, he spent many years in the retail industry, forging lasting friendships during his tenure at Zayre and Service Merchandise. He left a lasting impression on many colleagues who were fortunate enough to know him.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Greater Cincinnati Parks Foundation.  

 

A memorial service to celebrate Ron's life will be held in San Ignacio, Cayo, Belize, a place that held a special spot in his heart. Additionally, a private memorial gathering with family will be held in Cincinnati.
