Erlanger – Roger “Randy” Askin Jr., 58, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023 at home, surrounded by his wife and loved ones after a lengthy battle with kidney cancer. Randy served our country as a police officer in the US Airforce, and was a proud member of the Covington Fire Department and local 38 for twenty years.
After his retirement in 2008, Randy spent time enjoying family and friends and traveling the country. He wanted to visit all 50 states before he was 50 and was blessed to cross that off of his bucket list in 2014. His favorite place on earth was Glacier National Park where he spent many summers hiking in the spectacular beauty and sharing his love of nature with family and friends.
Randy never met a stranger and had friends everywhere. He had the uncanny ability to make lasting friendships with people from every state and every walk of life, and almost always ran into someone he knew as he traveled. Randy treasured his memories by commemorating most moments with a selfie, a tradition that will be fondly remembered by all those who were called into frame over the years.
Randy had a kind, loving, and selfless heart and lived his life dedicated to serving those around him. The way he gave of himself the most was through his work over 23 years as a friend of Bill W. His approach to sobriety and living the 12 steps helped countless people over the years and he will be deeply missed by his fellow travelers on the road to happy destiny.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Rowena Askin. Survivors include his loving wife, Stacie Broering Askin; his children, Blake and Emily (Tim); and his bonus children Emily (Matt), Matt, Kelly and Jenna. He was most proud to be an amazing grandpa to Bennett, Hunter and Rylie. He also leaves behind his in-laws, Frank and Donna Broering; sisters, Lisa (Roy) Miller and Tammy Askin; nieces and nephews: Bradley (Cassandra), Shelby (Lance), Taylor (Buzz), Thomas (Kelley), and Drew; many great nieces and nephews.
Visitation is on Thursday, February 16 from 10:00 am until the hour of service at 1:00 pm, at Middendorf Funeral Home, 3312 Madison Pike, Ft. Wright, KY. Interment in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.
