Richard John Menke, MD, 92, passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2023, with his loving wife of 66 years, Maryann (Rice) Menke, at his side. Dr. Menke was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth and Rita, two children, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” (Redwine) and Richard Clarence, and grandson Daniel Carey. In addition to his spouse, Dick is survived by five children, Patty Greer (Roger), Paul (Julie), Jeanne Carey (Tim), John (Barbara), Thomas (Meg), his son-in-law Jim Redwine, daughter-in-law Karen Menke, 20 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Born to Richard H. Menke and Mary (Kerstien) Menke, Dick grew up in Covington, KY and graduated from Covington Latin School in 1946. He attended Xavier University for his premedical education and received his Doctor of Medicine from St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1953. Dick practiced as an Orthopedic Surgeon for over 30 years and was the founding partner of the Northern Kentucky Orthopedic Associates, now known as Ortho Cincy. During his distinguished career, Dick was recognized as a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dick served his country as a physician in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. Service to his community included two terms on the board of St. Elizabeth Medical Center and volunteering to care for children at the Redwood Crippled Children’s Clinic for many years. Dick lived a long and memorable life enriched by his faith, family, and friends. He enjoyed spending time on the Ohio River, playing tennis, and sailing. Visitation will be on Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 11:30 am – 12:45 pm, followed by a funeral mass at 1:00 pm and reception from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church , 2409 Dixie Highway, Ft. Mitchell, KY, 41017. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Elizabeth Foundation, Edgewood, KY and Passionist Nuns Monastery, Erlanger, KY.
