Fort Wright

Leo William (Lee) Stauber, 95, of Ft. Wright, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, October 9th. Lee was the son of Christian and Christine (Simon) Stauber. He was raised in Newport, Kentucky where he attended Corpus Christi Parish and School. Lee was also a proud 1949 graduate of Newport Catholic High School. Upon graduation, Lee enlisted and served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War between 1951-1955.

Upon fulfilling his commitment to the Air Force, Lee returned home and met his beloved bride Martha Weibel. Lee and Martha married in 1957 and started a family. Lee and Martha were married for nearly 65 years and raised eight children together at their longtime home in Ft. Wright, Kentucky. Lee and Martha were very active in the children’s schooling and activities serving in a variety of capacities. Lee served as President/Chairman of Covington Latin PTA, Saint Agnes School Board, and proudly served on the Lay Advisory Board at Notre Dame Academy.

Lee was a lithographer by trade. He retired from Standard Publishing Co. in Mt. Healthy as a Pressroom Superintendent in 1994. He enjoyed his retirement years by traveling, playing golf, fishing, gardening, enjoying cards with friends, and woodworking. Through the years, each of his 18 grandchildren received a woodcraft that Grandpa made for them. They are treasures!

Lee was a man of tremendous faith and remained devoted to his church throughout his life. He devoted 24 years of volunteering at The Parish Kitchen and spent many years as a volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul. Lee further served St. Agnes Parish as a Eucharistic Minister.

Lee was preceded in death by his beloved wife Martha in 2022. Together, they leave a lasting legacy, as they are survived by his eight children: sons Dr. Christian (Christina), Lee (Marjie) and Scott (Tammi) and daughters Jane (Dave) Topmiller, Angela (Pat†) Hughes, Marta (Tom) Vennemann, Jenny (Woody) McMillen and Mary Robertson. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, his brother-in-law, Tom (Barbara) Weibel, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
