Juanita Ziegler Hanna, born on December 20, 1936, in Covington, Kentucky, passed away on November 4, 2026, at the age of 89, and was welcomed home into the loving arms of God and was reunited in eternal peace with the love of her life, Thomas Hanna.
She was a woman of deep and unwavering Catholic faith, which served as the foundation of her life. Her devotion to God and the Church guided her actions and served as a source of strength throughout her life. She avidly prayed the rosary and the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy. It was not uncommon to see Juanita with a rosary held tightly in her hand.
Outside of her faith, Juanita’s greatest joy was her family. She and her husband, Thomas raised three loving daughters who went on to give them six beloved grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Juanita was loving, nurturing, patient, witty, and kind, qualities she instilled in her children and grandchildren. She cherished her family most and they loved her fiercely in return.
Juanita and Thomas believed deeply in the importance of education and hard work, values they passed down to their children and grandchildren. Juanita was a living example of those principles. A trailblazer in her own right, she was the first woman to earn an accounting degree from Villa Madonna College (now Thomas More University) and she did so summa cum laude. She went on to serve as Vice President of Finance at Comprehensive Care Center (now known as NorthKey), a prominent healthcare organization, where she built a distinguished career spanning almost 25 years.
Juanita was a loving and loyal friend. She organized her college club for her friends which has been meeting monthly for almost 70 years. She loved opening her home to friends and family, hosting dinners and gatherings to fill her home with love and laughter. An amazing cook, Juanita found great joy in preparing meals and bringing her loved ones together around her table.
With her quick wit and her ability to find the humor in everyday life, she brought joy into the lives of so many. She leaves behind a lasting example of how to live a meaningful life, rooted in faith, guided by kindness, and defined by love for her family.
Juanita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Hanna, her great-granddaughter, Isabelle Davis, her parents, Wilbert Ziegler Sr. and Anna Enzweiler Ziegler, her sister-in-law, Helen Ziegler, and her nephew, Daniel Ziegler.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Jean Mize (Thomas), Diane Davis (Eric) and Judy Hanna, as well as her siblings, Wilbert Ziegler (Ellen), Irvin Ziegler (Luann), and Kathleen
Rettig (Jay). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Benjamin Davis (Allison Sweeney), Hanna Van Elk (Josh), Sara Sgantas (Matthew), Alexander Mize, Emily Davis (Thomas Laird), Rachel Stephenson (Joshua), and her loving great-grandchildren Leo Sgantas, Josephine Davis, Charles Van Elk, and Desmond Stephenson. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the visitation, which will be held on Monday, November 9, 2026, 5:00 to 7:30 PM at Middendorf Funeral Home, located at 3312 Madison Pike, Fort Wright, Kentucky. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 10am at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 2409 Dixie Highway, Fort Mitchell, Kentucky.
