Joseph James Glavan Jr., 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday
afternoon, December 10, 2025, surrounded by family in Florence,Kentucky, where he recently moved with his wife, Jean, to be nearer to family.He passed away just eleven days after his beloved wife. After over sixty years of marriage, his family takes immense comfort knowing that their time apart was brief. Joe and Jean’s marriage was a true partnership—built on love and shared adventure. Their bond was evident to all who knew them.Their devotion to each other was an inspiration, and their legacy of love will continue to guide their family.Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. In addition to his dearest wife, Jean D. Glavan, Joe is survived by his children, Joseph J. Glavan III, Tod F. Glavan, and Jacki (Peter) Wojcik;his grandchildren, Joseph J. (Danielle) Glavan IV, Janey Glavan, Benjamin Glavan, Paige Glavan, Dylan Glavan, Casey Wojcik, Brody Wojcik, and Mason Wojcik; and his great-grandson, Joseph J. Glavan V.Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on February 27, 1932, Joe was the eldest son of Joseph Sr. and Frances Glavan. His brothers, Arthur and Ronald, preceded him in death.Joe was a graduate of St. Benedictine High School in Cleveland and attended Kent State University and John Carroll University.He built his career in Sales Management, most notably at Sherwin Williams—where he met Jean—and United States Gypsum Company,where he dedicated over 20 years. Later in his career, he traveled many times to Asia—Japan, Taiwan, and China—and was proud to share stories from those experiences.Joe also dedicated over 20 years of service to the Navy Reserves, a commitment he was incredibly proud of and that reflected his sense of duty and patriotism.After retiring, Joe and Jean moved from Arlington Heights, Illinois—where they raised their three children—to Conway, South Carolina. In retirement,Joe found great joy in golfing three days a week, sharing rounds and laughter with friends. Joe also spent many years volunteering at the local hospital and helping at track and field meets for Coastal Carolina University. In addition to volunteering and golf, he loved his daily walks with Jean where he often stopped to talk and share stories with neighbors. He and Jean loved to travel, especially taking cruises together, and Joe delighted in driving to visit family and friends.A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Pius X Church, 348 Dudley Rd., Edgewood, KY 41017, on Friday, December 19 at 11:00 AM. It will be a combined mass for both he and Jean. In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed by a memorial contribution to Military Warriors Support Foundation in Joe’s name.
