John Peter Smith.  Passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the age of 81 years.  John is survived by his wife, Faye V. Smith; daughter, Tracey Ann Smith; brother, Stephen H (Sallie) Smith; niece & nephew, Stephanie (Evan) Terhar and Christian Smith; great-nieces, Emma & Grace Terhar; his loving dog Rudy.  Also survived by many other relatives and friends.  Visitation Friday, June 11th from 10:00 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, 1140 Madison Ave.  Covington, KY 41011.  John graduated from St. Xaiver High School and the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts and Letters. John served in the Army and the Army Reserves in Ft. Knox, KY where he rose to the ranks of Captain. He worked in his family’s business Smith & Shaeffer retiring as President and CEO after forty years of dedication. John was a member of Coldstream County Club, served as Vice President and on numerous executive committees.  John served on the Board of the Western Southern Tennis Championship for over fifteen years.  John was an avid golfer and tennis player. He was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church in Delray Beach, Florida and the  Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington, KY.  Sympathy may be expressed by a memorial contribution to the cathedral.  Online condolences may be made at, www.middendorf-funeralhome.com
