John F. “Jack” Steiber, of Edgewood, Kentucky, passed away peacefully with family by his side at St. Elizabeth Hospice on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the age of 90. He was born in Covington, Kentucky, to Robert Leland and Angela (Wigbels) Steiber on October 11, 1933.
Jack was a devout Catholic throughout his life. He attended Holy Cross High School in Latonia, KY. After high school, he entered the U. S. Army and served in Germany. Upon returning, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betty Ann” Urlage. They married in 1962 and enjoyed 54 wonderful years together until her passing in 2016. He was a true family man. Together they raised three children and were blessed with nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Jack worked as a Customer Service Manager in the manufacturing industry for 36 years until his retirement in 1996. In his ongoing quest to stay busy by fixing things, he then joined the City of Lakeside Park as the Public Works Director for 15 years. He and Betty Ann enjoyed their retired years traveling with friends and spending time with their grandchildren. His most proud moments were on the sidelines cheering on his grandchildren’s games and activities. His passions in life were family, church, hunting, and fishing – not necessarily in that order. Jack loved sharing with his grandchildren the art and skill of fishing. He found great comfort in attending Mass daily – and an equal amount of comfort fishing on his boat at the Bob White Club, preferably with Betty Ann by his side.
Jack was a long-time member of the Northern Kentucky Fly Fishers. He was always volunteering for the many youth fishing derbies and cherished the friendships of his fellow members. In 2021 he was recognized as the ‘Volunteer of the Year’ and in 2022 he was awarded ‘Fly Fisher of the Year.'
Loving father of Karen Cain (Tim); Kym Helton (Tony); and Chris Steiber (Shannon).Cherished grandfather of Allie, Amanda, McKenzie, Erik, Elisa, Michael, Travis, Preslee, and Hawkins.
Jack was proceeded in death by his brother Robert Steiber, and sisters Patricia Fischer and Judith Marth. He is survived by two brothers-in-law, Julius Marth and Gerald Urlage, as well as many nieces and nephews he dearly loved.
