James Calvin Hammer

James Calvin Hammer was born to Joseph Calvin and Magdalene Evelyn Hammer (Cal and Evelyn) on October 22, 1934, in Dayton, Kentucky. Jim worked for Shumacher Flooring Company for several years before joining the Navy. He served on the “USS Johnston.” After coming home, from the Navy, Jim worked for several company’s and finally worked for his nephew Curt Wagner, at Bluegrass Hardwood Floors. Jim lived his entire life in Campbell County. After suffering a stroke, Jim lived at Baptist Home in Newport and Seasons of Alexandria nursing home, where he left this life on April 30, 2022, to join his Mother and Father, along with his two sisters, Anna Ruth Murphy (Jack) and Mona Rose Fleisch (Gene), along with brother Daniel Earl Hammer (Nancy). True to the Hammer way, Jim never met a stranger, and if you met him, you remembered him, he was a true character. Jim will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews as “Santa Claus” at the yearly Christmas eve gathering at sister Carol’s house, thougth at the time the enthralled children knew he WAS the true Santa ! Jim is survived by his son , James Todd Hammer and two grandsons, along with sisters Carol Sue Wagner, and husband Cliff, of Ft. Mitchell, and Joan Elaine Ferguson and husband Joe, of Dayton, Ohio, plus all those nieces, nephews, many of whom will always remember that special night, each year when the “Real” Santa showed up at Aunt Carol and Uncle Cliff’s house to give them their gifts… I guess God needed his help, up there. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 11,2022 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at St. Benedict Church. Mass of Christiasn Burial will follow at 11:00 am. (Parking in rear of Church enter from 16^th Street.
