Dr. Carl J. “Jack” Brueggemann, MD, age 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Hospice.

Doc was a deeply faith-filled man. He exemplified a Christ-centered life through his kindness and humble way. He was a dedicated member of St. Agnes Parish for 66 years. He attended 6:30 am Mass daily with his wife, Carrie.

Doc loved his family. He was married to Carrie for 68 years. Together, they had seven children, 19 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. He was always a positive influence, providing encouragement and inspiration. His caring attitude brought out the best in everybody. He valued hard work and encouraged everyone to get involved.

Dr. Brueggemann was a dedicated and respected physician. He established his private medical practice on West 19th Street in Covington, Kentucky. Doc always put his patients and others first by showing true compassion and caring. He had the unique ability to take the time and listen attentively to others.

A few of Doc’s honors include: President of the Medical Staff at Saint Elizabeth Hospital, President of the Campbell/Kenton County Medical Society, Member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Chairman of the Residency Committee for the Saint Elizabeth Medical Center, the Outstanding Resident Teacher Award, and Member of the Sports Medicine Committee of the Kentucky Medical Association. He was one of the first physicians to introduce sports medicine to high school athletics in Northern Kentucky.

He was a master gardener and daylily hybridizer, having more than 700 varieties of daylilies in his gardens. Doc was an active member of the Greater Cincinnati Daylily Society.

Some of his community activities included co-founding the Northern Kentucky Piranhas AAU Swim Team. He was an active volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Doc graduated from Covington Catholic High School in 1949 and remained involved with the school in various ways. For more than 75 years, Doc Brueggemann was an integral part of the mission at Covington Catholic. He served on the Covington Catholic School Board. Doc was a founding member of the SCORE Committee. This committee raised the funds needed and physically helped construct the football field and track, and provided renovations to the baseball facility. He lovingly served as team doctor for Covington Catholic. Many remember Doc as he led the team in praying the Hail Mary on the field before and after each game. Doc had a unique love for and dedication to Covington Catholic High School. He truly possessed “A Spirit That Will Not Die!”.

Dr. Jack Brueggemann is survived by his devoted wife, Carol “Carrie” Brueggemann. Carrie and Jack married in 1957. Dr. Brueggemann is also survived by his beloved children: Kathy (Lyndon) Bertke, Jack (Teresa) Brueggemann, Jr., Tim (Jamie) Brueggemann, Mark (Sherri) Brueggemann, David (Mary Kay) Brueggemann, Mary (Dan) Stetter, and Andy (Jenny) Brueggemann; and his cherished grandchildren: Matthew (Meg) Bertke, Alexandra (Mark) Janszen, Carolyn and Jackie Brueggemann, Elizabeth and Emma Brueggemann, Kate (Matt) Ward, Mark Joseph (Nicole) Brueggemann, Tim (Cynthia) and Travis Brueggemann, Katie (Brennan) Scott, David (Meredith) Brueggemann, Nathan (Nicole), Austin (Tessa) and Zach Stetter, Shelby (Joe) Wilkens, Brooke, Haley and Hunter Brueggemann. He is also survived by 26 treasured great-grandchildren.

Dr. Brueggemann was preceded in death by his infant son Eric Andrew, his parents Carl F. and Myrtle Brueggemann, and his sister Doris (Brueggemann) Kappes.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright, Kentucky, on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 am. After the mass, all will have the opportunity to greet the family and celebrate Doc’s life at a reception at Covington Catholic High School, Park Hills, Kentucky.

Doc and Carrie provide scholarships for students of Covington Catholic High School in need of financial assistance.
