Daniel (Dan) Joseph Pieschel was born April 14, 1949, and passed away on August 4, 2025. Dan is survived by his loving wife, Janet, children, Danny (Michelle), Joe, Tami Kesselring-Rees, and Dave (Heidi) Kesselring, grandchildren, Kayla (Jon) Dusing, Josh Kesselring, Kendra Kesselring (Eric), Abby, and Ashley Rees, great grandchildren, Calvin, Oliver, and Maddux, brothers, Paul (Rayea) and Jerry (Lynn), and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dan was welcomed into heaven by his brothers Walt (survived, Kathy) and Dick (survived, Pat), and his grandson A.J. Rees.
Dan was born to Walter Pieschel and Dolores Schrage in Ludlow, Kentucky. He was the second youngest of five boys. Dan graduated from Covington Catholic High School Class of 1967 and went on to attend Thomas More College Class of 1971. Although Dan traveled throughout many places during his life, he always called Northern Kentucky home.
Dan’s life was forever changed for the better when God blessed him with the gift of fatherhood and two wonderful sons. From the very beginning, he embraced the role wholeheartedly – whether it was serving as an Indian Guide, coaching their football teams, or simply being a steady presence in their lives. Dan was the kind of dad who showed up, no matter what. He led by example, offering guidance with patience and love, while giving his sons the freedom to grow into strong, independent, unique individuals. Being their father was one of his greatest joys and proudest accomplishments.
Dan loved his work as a Special Agent for the Internal Revenue Service. He officially retired October of 2005, but in true Dan fashion he continued his work through Treasurer Executive Office for Asset Forfeiture for 17 more years retiring in December of 2023. Dan was never one to sit still-if he had a free moment, he found a way to fill it. For 20 years, that meant diving into real estate, where he found real joy in helping people discover their forever homes. He especially loved any excuse to work with family and friends, often turning business into an opportunity for connection and laughter.
Dan had a heart of a kid and a spirit that never grew old. He was a constant reminder to those around him to lighten up, laugh often, and make time for fun. One of his favorite ways to do that was through music – especially live concerts. A devoted Beatles fan, Dan had a special love for Paul McCartney shows, which became cherished family outings. He proudly introduced his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to the magic of rock and roll, making sure they knew exactly who John, Paul, George, and Ringo were from an early age. These shared musical moments became treasured memories that his family will hold onto forever.
Above all else, Dan loved his family fiercely. No matter how busy life got, they were always his top priority and greatest source of pride. As Dan’s family grew, he gained a new cherished title “G-Pa”. He was a devoted and fun-loving grandfather to his six grandkids, never missing a chance to cheer them on, lend a hand, or simply be there when they needed him. Becoming a great-grandfather brought him even more joy, taking that beloved title to a whole new level. His face would light up around his great-grandsons, and he formed unique, meaningful bonds with each of them.
