Sr. Mary Rose Paula Foltz

June 17, 1929 — February 10, 2018

Sister Mary Rose Paula was born on July 17, 1929, in Covington, Kentucky. Her parents, Peter and Marie Walsh Foltz, raised four children. Jean was the youngest. She described her childhood as fun and carefree. She felt she was the “apple of her dad’s eye.” Jean attended Blessed Sacrament School and Notre Dame Academy. She knew very early that she wanted to be a sister and entered the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1947 after graduation from high school. She admired the dedication, generosity, and friendliness manifested by the Sisters of Notre Dame.On August 12, 1949, Sister Rose Paula made her first profession of vows. Sister began her ministry teaching kindergarten and primary grades while attending Villa Madonna College. She completed her Bachelor’s program at Our Lady of Cincinnati College and her Master’s program at Xavier University. The following years were spent teaching elementary grades and CCD religion classes. Sister was also a well-loved and respected principal for three local elementary schools. After her many years of teaching, Sister Rose Paula served for eleven years as the province secretary and then assisted in the office at St. Columban School in Loveland, Ohio. No matter the school or the title, everyone adored her. Sister will be greatly missed.Sister Rose Paula loved teaching children and felt great empathy working along side her community of sisters. She saw them as partners working for the same mission. However, prayer was her highest priority, nourishing her so she could meet the needs of others, growing closer to God and those to whom she ministered. Sister is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert Foltz, and her sisters, Rosemary Austing and Catherine Warken. She leaves behind four nieces. She will also be fondly remembered by many great nieces and nephews.Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at the Provincial Center, followed by the Wake Service at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 7:00 p.m. in the convent chapel.Interment will be held at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, in the convent cemetery.
