Sister Nancy Schutte

March 26, 1938 — June 8, 2018

Sister Nancy Marie (formerly Sister Virginia Rose) Schutte was born on March 26, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the oldest of three children; a twin sister lived less than a day. Though her childhood was challenging due to a severe hip infection and the loss of her mother at an early age, sorrow was overpowered by the love her family gave to her. Nancy was inspired by her Catholic education when she attended Saint Martin School. After graduating from St. Xavier Commercial High School and working for a year, she entered the Sisters of Notre Dame on September 8, 1955, and made her profession of vows on August 16, 1958.  Sister Nancy Marie served in Lourdes Hall Care Center and the business offices at St. Claire Regional Medical Center and Notre Dame Academy. She also assisted the children and staff at St. Aloysius Orphanage and the Diocesan Catholic Children’s Home. Sister further gave of herself to her community in various capacities at the Provincial Center, where she shared her artistic gifts in the form of photography and exquisite handmade items. After many years of service, Sister Nancy Marie retired to Lourdes Hall Care Center in 2014 due to her increasing arthritic condition. She lived joyfully, taking pleasure in the little things of daily life, enjoying reading, music, and watching history and nature programs. Her kindness and warm smile revealed a deep goodness of heart. Sister was blessed with 60 years of professed religious life. Throughout these sixty years, she felt she had been richly supported by her community, family and friends. On Friday, June 8, 2018, Sister Nancy Marie went home to God very peacefully, surrounded by her loving sisters. Sister is preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister, and her brother, William Schutte. She leaves behind her beloved nephews, Ken and Mike Schutte, and several close cousins. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at the Provincial Center, followed by the Wake Service at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 7:00 p.m. in the convent chapel. Interment will be in the convent cemetery after the 8:30 a.m. mass on Thursday, June 14, 2018.
